summer wardrobe

They say that transitioning your wardrobe from spring to summer is one of the easiest to make. But, when you’re from Minnesota, like we are, you deal with the daily roller coaster that is a cool 40 degrees in the morning, a balmy 80 at mid-day and a refreshing 60 by the time you wrap up dinner. This makes advanced planning less than ideal.

Luckily, as the days get longer and we start to hit the full swing of summer, we start to hit that plateau of dawn until dusk hot, hot, hot. And, by this point, we’re ready for a spring to summer wardrobe refresh.

Now that it’s finally time to put away the heavy sweaters and dark denims for a while, here’s a few of our quick tips for making the switch:

Focus on Fabrics

For the summer months, I’ll be putting away anything that doesn’t breathe well or tends to show sweat easily (think silks, darker colors, and heavy materials like polyesters). Instead, I’ll be swapping those out for summer faves like flowy fabrics, lightweight cottons and jersey knits.

Incorporate Trends

Trends come and go quickly from season to season. So, I won’t be throwing caution to the wind by trying every single trend this summer. I’ll opt for a couple of my must-haves and leave the rest alone. This summer we’re loving the fresh off the 90s throwback to the slip dress and know it will fit right into our easy, breezy Minnesota summers.

Mix and Match Basics

Solid tees and neutral colored bottoms make it easy to transition from year to year. They also help create budget-friendly pairings for the trends you do plan to incorporate into any summer style.

Don’t Forget to Change up your Accessories

Quite possibly our favorite way to transition a wardrobe is through accessories. Okay, we might be a little bit biased here, but what’s not to love about transitioning your style from season to season by simply changing up your jewelry, headbands, fashion scarves, belts and shoes? We’re pretty sure the answer is no one.
